Wimpole's Folly
Wimpole's Folly is a striking mock-ruined Gothic castle tower that rises unexpectedly from the gentle Cambridgeshire landscape on the Wimpole Hall estate. Designed by Sanderson Miller in the eighteenth century, it was built purely for dramatic visual effect — a picturesque adornment to the sweeping parkland laid out by Capability Brown. From a distance it looks genuinely ancient; up close it's a wonderfully theatrical piece of landscape theatre.
