Embury Beacon camp
Embury Beacon camp clings to the clifftops of the North Devon coast near Hartland, where the land drops sharply into the Atlantic. This Iron Age promontory fort used the sea itself as a natural defence on three sides, and the drama of its setting is as striking today as it must have been to its builders. The headland's raw, windswept character makes it one of Devon's more atmospheric prehistoric sites.
- Dramatic Atlantic clifftop setting
- Iron Age promontory fort
- Remote Hartland coastline
Best for wild coastal walking and the thrill of standing inside an ancient clifftop fortress.
