Holmwood Common

🌲 Nature📍 Holmwood

Holmwood Common is a large expanse of ancient wood pasture and heathland in the Surrey Hills, protected by the National Trust and grazed in the traditional manner that has shaped its open, park-like character for centuries. Ancient oaks stand over bracken and seasonal wet flushes that attract dragonflies in summer, while the paths are quiet enough to feel genuinely wild despite the common's proximity to Dorking. It's a fine example of the worked common land that once covered much of lowland England.

Best for wildlife walkers and those wanting a genuine taste of ancient Surrey common land.
