Winnats Pass
Winnats Pass is one of the most dramatic and awe-inspiring landscapes in the Peak District — a steep, narrow limestone gorge cutting through the hills above Castleton in Derbyshire. The towering rock walls, formed from the remains of a tropical sea reef some 340 million years ago, rise on either side of the winding road, creating a sense of ancient, geological grandeur. It's the kind of place that stops you in your tracks and reminds you just how extraordinary the English landscape can be.
